Midweek Preview

What fabulous fragment is this unearthed 'neath Chronos' bones? Tune in Monday, January 26, 2009 for the latest installment of Arms and Ether. Fanfare. Garlands. Dancing. Physiognomy.

Got some decent drawing done this morning after waking up from a nightmare at 5 a.m. Lots to think and draw about these days. Time to work up some Maya magic for class this afternoon. Need more coffee. Liquid courage.

Lots of ideas percolating for the "hard launch" Arms and Ether rollout. The button thing in yesterday's post has got me thinking about a far more phantasmagorical website. I'll burn in hellfire for it, but since I can do it, why not? I'm like Shatner or Anthony Hopkins in that way. Sure, I can act, but I can sing too! Holy @#$%^#$%&* I'd never actually SEEN the Shatner Rocket Man before. Go. Now. See. Believe.

God knows when the Arms and Ether "hard-launch" will happen, though. Realistically, I'm thinking summer, and why not? A rocket. . . man.

Going Green with Artists' Drugs

Here are the three primary drugs artists use to boost creativity: Absinthe, Mountain Dew, and Greedo. Which do you prefer? If I've had a week's worth of sleep and recently accomplished one of my life's primary goals, I can really enjoy alcohol (about once every 1-7 years?). Or, if I haven't eaten anything all day (once ever 1-3 years?). Other than that, I stick to caffeine and inhabitants of the original Mos Eisley cantina.

What Ben Franklin

. . .may have looked like, nude and from behind; such is the price of my return to daily drawings.

Just had coffee with Warren Hedges down at the Beanery. Always inspiring to talk to the Ashland Elk of the Year. One of our main characters in The Happiness Hole is loosely based on him. Real Warren has a network-like brain able to take difficult ideas, distill them and make them comprehensible to the layman. Our fake Warren is a Warren gone off the deep end, driven mad by:
1) The cruel stupidity of the world.
2) A sense of the interconnection of all knowledge now made disturbingly literal by the invention of a quantum super computer.
3) A painful love affair with a dakini destined for bigger things.

Real-life Warren knows how to swim and tread water, so the deep end doesn't bother him.

Sunday Lovin' Had Me a Blast

A beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon. Played some basketball in the ol' Bellview gym with a good combo of guys over 40 and kids under 15. Then ran into bearded art stars Matthew Furber and Andrew Farris at the Beanery. Jolly times. Talked video games, comics and Tom of Finland. Now, what to do? Lots of tests to grade, curriculum to develop, web site to make, happiness hole to create/fill, walls to stare at, etc.

Domestic Front: I finally got the water heater installed yesterday with lots of support from Scott, Nick and Galen. Good to have friends that are smarter than you. Nice to do something non school/art related. Also, Julie and I went out to dinner with Scott and Christy on Saturday. Twas much fun. Eatin', drinkin', and talking #$@#!. Get some carbohydrates in me and I'll start prattling on about just about anything I know absolutely nothing about.

Now, I think I'll work on the site. . . though I should be grading tests .

"Dick the Dude" and "Pete the Pirate" are two of Wooly Willy's "magnetic personalities." If you Google "Dick the Dude" you won't find images of Wooly Willy, however.

Tis Saturday

11:45 a.m. Sunny. Ducked into my office for a sec to pick up some stuff to read today--then, o'er to Starbucks to get the lady some coffee. I'd love to drop a few hours on the site, but I don't know if that's going to happen today--We've folks in from out of town, and Don Von's 70th birthday. Wow. 70. At least I'll do this here daily drawing. . . Snorky as real-world go-getter?

Also, I'm going to be posting links to my former students' sites soon. They're doing some dynamite, inspiring stuff. Staying in touch with them is a motivator for me gettin' muh junk on the web.

Two-Headed Monster of Deception

It's as good a gray day as any to pop outside, walk down to the Beanery for some Olde Testament Yaweh, and then to school. More work on the web site. Office hours. Then it's time for my 3D modeling class--in which I teach the 3 "D's" of modeling: Dependibility, Dexterity, and Defense.
